The Anatomy of a Hybrid: A Study in Church State Relations  by Leonard Verduin is “a powerful monograph on the evils of the ancient sacral states, the tragic union  of church and state from the fourth century, and the monstrous tragedies of all totalitarianisms. The book is based on thorough research, displays keen wit and cool courage, and is written in a vigorous and clear style. It is especially appropriate to release this book on America’s bicentennial, for it was here that the evil union of church and state was … broken by the First Amendment. Highly recommended.” –J. C. Wenger.

The Reformers and Their Stepchildren…; Leonard Verduin, F…; Best Price $7.46or Buy New $16.93
The Reformers and Their Stepchildren by Leonard Verduin. “The coalition of church and state has continually had outspoken opponents since its’ inception in the 4th century under Constantine. All through the long medieval night of papal terror and up to the present day of accommodation and compromise, there has never been a time when the voice of dissent and nonconformity was not heard, protesting against established religion and coerced uniformity. The most prominent target of that protest has been the arrogant usurpation of Christ’s Kingly Authority and Headship over His churches and the souls of men, whether that usurpation was Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Presbyterian, or any other. As it has been, so shall it ever be.This enduring testimony of dissent, this genuine Christian nonconformity arises as the inevitable response of the Christian soul to the internal witness of the Spirit toward the truth and supreme authority of God’s Word. Consequently, the origin, nature and history of Christ’s churches can never be adequately discerned or explained apart from some grasp of the Biblical Truths advocated and defended throughout the history of genuine Christian Dissent and Nonconformity. As Dr. J. S. Whale, former Professor of Ecclesiastiacl History, Mansfield College, Oxford University, said, ‘Dissent, not only from the centralized absolutism of Rome, but also from State establishments of Protestantism in the Old World is an historic fact of enduring influence. To account for the tradition of liberty in the ‘free world’ of today without reference to dissent would be to read modern history with one eye shut.'”

The New World Religion: The Spiritual Roots of Global Government
by Gary H. Kah. From the back cover: “THE NEW WORLD RELIGION presents insightful clarification between authentic biblical Christianity and the occult teachings of the ‘New Age’ by explaining the religious underpinnings of a dangerous, yet rapidly growing movement. Gary Kah documents growing ’empowerment’ of the U.N., soon to be felt by us all as new international laws and regulations become fully enforecable in the new millennium. This compelling book takes issue with hidden agendas aimed at destroying our Christian herigage and encourages a stand for righteousness and faithfulness to the teachings o fJesus Christ in the expectation of His imminent return.” My comments: see the unfolding of the one world religion and government as prophesied in the Bible by reading the facts in this book.

The Trail of Blood Revisited: Christ’s True Church: It’s Past, Present and Future by Dr. Greg Dixon. From the “Forward” by Dr. Robert McCurry: “In this book, Dr. Greg Dixon provides a brief historical and contemporary overview of some of the conflicts the Lord’s Church has encountered and the ever-increasing efforts of civil government to ensnare and control the Lord’s Church…. The real issue is, Who is Lord? Who is the Head of the Lord’s Church — the Lord Jesus Christ or civil government? The Christian and the Lord’s Church answer with clear and unwavering, nonnegotiable answer: Jesus Christ is the sole Lord and Head of His Church! … Dr. Greg Dixon provides some practical guidelines on how the Lord’s Church can function in the real world free from civil government entanglement. Hopefully, this book will ignite a flame of concern and interest that will result in an application of the essential biblical truth that Jesus Christ is the sole Lord and Head of His Church.”

have read this book at least three times and referred to it many times. Dr. Greg Dixon, the author, is Pastor Emeritus of Indianapolis Baptist Temple, which was the eleventh largest church in the nation in the 1970s. When Dr. Dixon began to learn the truth about incorporation and 501(c)(3) of churches, he (as pastor of IBT), acted to disentangle the church from the government. A long, hard fight with the civil government ensued. Today, in 2009, IBT has emerged as a vibrant New Testament Church under the leadership of Dr. Dixon’s son, Pastor Greg A. Dixon. IBT is an example from whom Christians in America can glean much spiritual insight.

[A] gentleman wrote of Dr. Armitage, ‘The expression of his face is one of mingled intelligence and kindness. As he converses it is with animation, and his eyes sparkle. His manners are easy, graceful, and cordial. He fascitates strangers and delights friends. He appears before you a polished gentleman, who wins his way to your esteem and affection by his exalted worth.’ This description has been confirmed by time” (from introductory biography in the reprint of the 2 volume work). 7 Men Who Rule the World from the Grave by Dave Breese. “Though their bodies lie cold and dormant, the grave cannot contain the influence these seven men have had on today’s world. They continue to rule because they have altered the thinking of society. They generated philosophies that have been ardently grasped by masses of people but are erroneous and antiscriptural. Today these ideas pervade our schools, businesses, homes, even the church. As we continue to unknowingly subscribe to their philosophies we keep the grave open for Charles Darwin…, Karl Marx…, Julius Wellhausen…, John Dewey…, Sigmund Freud…, John Maynard Keynes…, and Soren Kierkegaard. Dave Breese warns us of the dangers of believing unreservedly the ideas of these seven men. He also reminds us of the only man whose life and words we can trust completely—Jesus Christ.”

The Puritan Dilemma: The Story of John Winthrop by Edmund S. Morgan. This book chronicles the attempts of the Puritans to achieve perfection in the frontier of the New World.  They believed that they were the right people, at the right time and place to show the world what could be achieved by those who would do things God’s way in structuring a society. As pointed out in God Betrayed their attempts were doomed for failure and did fail because their theology concerning church and state was derived from the false theology implemented by the Roman Catholic “church,” adopted by Protestant churches which came out of the Roman Catholic church, and brought to America by the Puritans, Anglicans, and others.

Baptist Foundations in the South: Tracing through the Separates the Influence of the Great Awakening, 1754-1787 by William L. Lumphin. “The life and history of the Separate Baptists have continued to leave their mark upon the subsequent story of the denomination and the nation.” This book chronicals the movement of Separate Baptists who came out of the established Congregationalist church in New England. Those Baptists, such as Shubal Stearns and Daniel Marshall left New England and carried the Gospel to the south where they led great revival starting in North Carolina. The Separate Baptists were eventually run out of North Carolina by the Anglican governor William Tryon. Like the Christians at Jerusalem in the early church who were persecuted and forced to do what God commanded them, the Separate Baptists spread over the south carrying God’s message. Many went to Virginia where God used them mightily, in their persecutions, as a catalyst in bringing about the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

James, D.D., 1900. James set out to search for and examine for himself all available original sources of information, including “writings of men like Madison and Jefferson as throw light upon the subject at hand” as well as remonstances presented to the Virginia Assembly during the years 1776-1786 which were very instrumental in the fight for religious liberty in Virginia (which was led by the Baptists), the final achievement of religious liberty in Virginia in 1786, and the adoption of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution which made America the first nation in history to provide for religious liberty. This book, which quotes from many of those documents, was the result of his studies.

The Dark Side of the Purpose Driven Church By Noah W. Hutchings. From the back cover: “Dr. [Rick] Warren stated on May 23, 2005, at the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life: ‘The word ‘Fundamentalist’ actually comes from a document in the 1920s called the Five Fundamentals of the Faith. And it is very legalistic, narrow view of Christianity.’ The five fundamentals of the faith to which Dr. Warren objected are: 1. The inerrancy and full authority of the Bible. 2. The virgin birth and full Deity of Jesus Christ. 3. The godily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 4. Christ’s atoning, vicarious death for the sins of the world. 5. The literal Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The purpose driven Church religion at best is a distortion of the gospel; at worst, a repudiation of biblical, saving faith in Jesus Christ.”

Deceived on Purpose by Warren Smith. From the author’s introduction: “What I thought would be a pretty quick read turned out to be a lengthy process that included the writing of this book. Barely into my reading of The Purpose-Driven Life, I had immediate questions and concerns. And then, as I read along, one issue would seem to lead to another. It didn’t take long to see that Rick Warren wasn’t the only one who had definite purposes for the Purpose-Driven Church. It became very clear that our spiritual Adversary had his purposes, too. Because of my New Age background I have written this book, Deceived on Purpose, to specifically address some of the New Age implications of these purposes.”

Because of this, it is imperative that we test the spirits of his teachings to see if they are of God. ‘Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some whall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; … If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and good doctrine, whereunto thou has attained’ (1 Timothy 4:1, 6).”

Dispensationalism by Charles C. Ryrie. “Dispensationalism continues to provoke heated debate within the Christian world. Highly acclaimed theologian Dr. Charles C. Ryrie addresses this crucial issue from the perspective of classic dispensationalism. He confronts the views of covenant theology, historical premillennialism, ultradispensationalism, and, in the revisesd edition, the increasingly popular progressive dispensationalism. In his best-selling book, Dispensationalism Today, written more than thirty years ago, Dr. Ryrie made this complex subject more understandable for thousands worldwide. This revised and expanded version of that book will prove to be an invaluable reference tool for your library.” This book was very helpful to Jerald Finney, the author of God Betrayed, in gaining an understanding of (1) the theological warfare that raged in the colonies that led to the adoption of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and (2) the different biblical views of the philosophies of history.

There Really Is a Difference: A Comparison of Covenant and Dispensational Theology by Renald E. Showers. From the Forward: “The Bible offers a systematic interpretation of history. ‘It covers the entire scope of history from beginning to end, including the what and why of the future. It presents a unifying principle which ties together and makes sense of the whole gamut of events, distinctions, and successions.’ Consequently, it is imperative for every Christian to have a grasp of how to interpret or ‘rightly divide’ the Word of God. Currently, two theological persuasions dominate efforts to systematically interpret Scripture. In this book Dr. Renald Showers draws the distinctions between Covenant and Dispensational Theology and demonstrates that the differences are not superficial but fundamental–there really is a difference!” This book was very helpful to Jerald Finney, the author of God Betrayed, in gaining an understanding of (1) the theological warfare that raged in the colonies and led to the adoption of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and (2) the different biblical views of the philosophies of history.

Churches under Christ Ministry Website: Understanding and Applying God's Principles for Church Headship "Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ" (2 Corinthians 11:1-3). ————————————This Ministry is under the authority of Charity Baptist Tabernacle of Amarillo, Texas. Jerald Finney, a Christian Lawyer and member of Charity Baptist Tabernacle, having received this ministry in the Lord, explains how a church in America can remain under the Lord Jesus Christ and Him only. "As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen" (1 Peter 4:10-11; See also, Ephesians 4::1-16 and 1 Corinthians 12:1-25). "Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it" (Colossians 4:17). "And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church" (Ephesians 1.22; See also, e.g. Colossians 1:18).
