2 Timothy 2:15: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Bible study is essential for Christian growth. It is not to replace one’s active participation and learning in his local New Testament church, nor the teaching and preaching therein, but to complement it. Bible study includes “analysis,” not just reading or memorization. To understand God’s truths as revealed in the Bible, keep in mind that you must believe it. To become a disciple of Christ, you must continue, believing, in His word. Remember, that the word of God in English is the King James Bible and only the King James Bible.
John 8:31-32 “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Someone may be very good at memorizing, but memorization alone is not sufficient. To enjoy all that God offers you in his word, you must first believe, then study, analyze, and apply as you read. Without application, study and analysis is useless. Application takes place where the rubber meets the road – where one lives his daily life – regardless of his circumstances.
You begin as a babe in Christ…. [The remainder of these comments may be assessed by clicking the following link: Bible Study Guidelines.]
Click the following to go to some of Jerald Finney’s Bible study notes, taken on computer since 2003. Before then, his notes were on 3×5 cards) on a given topic. All his notes are not yet downloaded onto this website – he will add additional notes as time permits. Finney constantly adds to these notes. The most important notes to which he referred while writing God Betrayed and other books and articles are included. The first three sections of God Betrayed are the result of many years and thousands of hours of Bible study. These notes formed the basis of his studies as presented on this website:
Repentance, the New Creature, the New Life, and Changed Behavior
The Judgment Seat of Christ: God’s Warnings to Christians
The Kingdom of Heaven/The Kingdom of God
Government: Biblical teaching on
Schism or Divisions among the Brethren
Prophets and preachers—good and bad
Topical Index (Jerald Finney started keeping this page many years ago. Before that, he had kept his Bible study notes on 3/5 cards. This was the first document in his computerized notes which was arranged by subject and topic. Then, some entries became very long, at which point he created separate documents for those entries. Later, he began to group related subject documents into files.)
Finney’s notes on other topics will be added as time permits

God has given Christians great spiritual possessions, but they have never possessed them. Hear teaching on this at “Is there a contradiction between Joshua 11.23 (So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.) and 13. 1 (Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.).”
Abraham’s father, Terah, was an idolater. There was total apostasy, and all mankind served other Gods when God called Abraham. Why did God choose Abraham? Why did God make a nation out of Abraham? Click here to hear the rather short answer to these questions. The short audio gives some very important lessons for pastors and churches this day, a day of almost universal idolatry in America. And Dr. McGee died in 1988, so this audio was made sometime before that. This is his broadcast covering Joshua 23-24. The tape was cut to begin with Joshua 24.1.
What is God’s philosophy of history? What are the steps in the downfall of a nation, according to God? Learn this by clicking the following link to a short teaching that answers these questions: Study of Judges 1.1-3.11.
