John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. … He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

God loved everyone in the world enough to sin His Dear Son to die to pay the price He requires for sin. Sexual sins, to include adultery and fornication between “heterosexuals,” are an abomination to God. Yet, God provides a remedy for everyone because of His great love. Ephesians 6:11-12 “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Americans have, in the main, conceded the federal government to the forces of Satan.

Let us quote just a few of many Bible verses in regards to man and woman, God’s crowning creation. Sexual immorality and perversion has become tied up in all three steps of the downfall of America, religious apostasy, moral awfulness, and political tyranny.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Genesis 2:18 “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”
Genesis 2:23-25 “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”

Culture Wars: Have We Passed The Point Of No Return?  (022621)

Of course, everywhere one looks, sexual perversion is being practiced and promoted. Americans, in general approve of, promote and/or practice it. Romans 1:18-32 states the importance of this to a nation. The steps in the downfall of a nation toward the judgment of God:

Some who would profane marriage falsely assert that Jesus had nothing to say about marriage. In fact, Jesus proclaimed the Genesis narrative of creation and God’s order for marriage, an institution which God ordained, laying out the principles thereof in his word. Jesus, according to God’s order, spoke only of male and female when referring to marriage.

Our Lord stated:

“And [Jesus] answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Matthew 19.4-6; see also, Mark 10.1-12, Luke 16.18, Matthew 5.31-32.

Our Lord quoted many times from the Old Testament, thereby verifying the truth therein. He never said a negative word about any Old Testament Scripture. The Old Testament, as well as the New, is clear about marriage, sodomy, and any sex outside the union of a man and woman in the bonds of holy matrimony; any sexual sin is an abomination to God. He never said a word in support of any sexual sin. The acceptance and practice of all kinds of sexual sins (adultery, fornication, etc.) led to the acceptance of sodomy.

Tell me that a significant percentage of Americans are not now certifiably insane after reading the following article and the comments quoted in the article. In the early 1990s I told a friend, “You ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait until all the public school kids grow up. Starting at least in the 1980s the public schools were pushing sodomy.” Well, the public schools, the secular media (and much of the so-called “Christian” media) are now promoting even worse perversions than in the 1980s. Sadly, many Americans, even a lot of older Americans who should have better sense, have bought the propaganda. America is going down at an accelerating rate.

Some would say

“Why should sodomites not be allowed to marry? After all, they have a right to be with the one they ‘love.’ They are hurting no one. Etc.”

The problem with their reasoning is that it is just that, and it leaves God and his principles out of the equation. Many sodomites and their proponents leave the word of God out of the equation, or they pervert the clearly stated declarations concerning same-sex fornication, even to the point of taking over so-called “churches” who are led by perverts or their supporters.

The word of God is clear. Fornication (sex outside marriage: marriage can only be between a man and woman according to the one who established marriage and defined it) is a sin. Sexual immorality has bad consequences for the individual, the family, the nation, and so-called “churches” who condone and practice it.  Romans 1.21-23 give the seven stages of Gentile world apostasy. Romans 1.24-32 (Romans 1.21-32 are quoted below) give the result of Gentile world apostasy. Of course, the the Old Testament has a lot to say about sexual sins and God’s judgment of nations for such immorality. See, e.g., Leviticus 18, quoted below).

Romans 1:21-32 “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.  For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. Leviticus 18:1-30: “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God. After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.  Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness. Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her. And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.  Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which werebefore you, and the land is defiled;) That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you. For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. FATHER WHO BEAT MAN TO DEATH FOR RAPING HIS FIVE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER FACES NO CHARGES IN TEXAS

Surprise, surprise, surprise (to mind numbed liberals, but not to those who have some Bible understanding):

Some sodomites are getting bolder about their perversions. They parade their perversions in public, even against those who expose sodomy for what it is. Some have raped children and even adults when the opportunity has arisen. Many sodomites are sodomites because abused by a sodomite or sodomites when a child. Back in the 1990s I went with a group on Wednesday night to do services in the downtown Austin Salvation Army center. Another man and I went one Wednesday night and were setting up chairs and preparing the meeting room. The other man had a young son. The subject of the military came up and I said to him that had I a son, I would never allow him to join the military. He asked why. I said, “Can you imagine going to war with a bunch of women and sodomites.” He said, “You have a point.” Little did I know that a woman security guard (probably a lesbian) was outside in the hall. She came into the room infuriated and started to order us around. Yet, even to this day, I know believers who are letting their boys go into the military with no warning. Hosea 4:1: “Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.” Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” 2 Peter 1:2-10 “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. A minority in this society still live a somewhat moral life. An even smaller (very small) minority are born again (See God’s Plan of Salvation for Bible teaching on how to become a child of God as opposed to remaining a child of the devil. Many people who practice and/or promote homosexual conduct and many of their supporters are – when told that their sexual practices are sinful – violent, vicious, and would deny freedom of religion, speech, press, association, etc. They hate those who tell them the truth about their sin nature and sinful behaviors, and they label anyone who speaks truth about these matters as hate mongers. This is because of their nature. They share the nature of their leader, Satan. They seek acceptance because God put within them a knowledge of good and evil (a conscious). They feel condemned because of their conscience, but they wrongly believe it is because their sin is not accepted by others. The solution for them, as for everyone, is salvation – repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ – not acceptance of their sins. There have been many stories, largely ignored or twisted to support their agenda, by the secular media, over the last 20-30 years, which show that many sodomites are vicious against those who speak the truth about their sexual behavior. I have personally witnessed their violent, hateful, reactions to preaching of the Gospel, even when sodomy or other sexual sins were never mentioned in the preaching.

Many homosexuals are also pedophiles. Many rape children. Some homosexuals have told me they were raped as children; that thereafter they just had no sexual desire for sex with a woman, and that they did not resent being raped by one of their sex because they were already predisposed to be homosexual. Some female children, having been raped by an adult male, became lesbians as a result. Yes, those who suffered such criminal acts were greatly wronged, but that does not justify continuing in sinful conduct. When one repents and trusts Jesus to save them from sin, they are forgiven their sins and the healing process begins.

God ordained marriage long before he ordained civil government. He ordained marriage in the Garden of Eden:

Genesis 2:21-24: “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

Marriage, according to God, is a covenant between a man, a woman, and God. God is the controlling party. God never gave jurisdiction over marriage to any lower power. As our Lord said:

“The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder”(Matthew 19:3-6).

Civil government was not ordained by God until the flood, sometime after he ordained the institution of marriage (See Genesis 9). At that point in time, man became responsible, for the first time, to rule the world for God. Of course, civil governments decide whether or not to operate under God’s rules or Satan’s rules because God gave man free will. God laid out the jurisdiction of civil government, and he never gave civil government jurisdiction over marriage. Civil government has presumed to assume jurisdiction over marriage, but it cannot and has not done so. Civil government cannot change the definition of marriage. Two men, two women, two women and a man, etc. cannot marry. God defined marriage. One cannot change truth with theology, rhetoric, or laws. Marriage cannot be a contract between a man and woman and the state, the state being the controlling party. What is called “marriage” in American law is not marriage at all. It is a satanic counterfeit of the real thing. It is distressing to see “Christians” using secular (“Satanic”) reasoning to argue for state marriage.

As a side note, I believe that this perversion of the truth about marriage and its relation to civil government occurred in the common law which was developed under the auspices of the Catholic Church, and then also Protestant Church domination.

Of course, the homosexual “rights” movement has presented the Christian community with many new challenges.  One of the most dangerous developments for Christians in the United States has been the sanctioning of “same-sex marriage” by a number of states.  The implications of this new legal status are indeed dire for Biblical organizations, ministries, and individuals.  There could be serious consequences in the days ahead for Christians who continue to reject, criticize, or fight these so-called marriages, but we must follow what the Bible says, even if it means suffering persecution.

The fifth chapter of the book of Ephesians begins with admonitions to believers to live as “followers of God” and to “walk as children of light.”  A clear-cut testimony for the light of God and against the darkness of sin requires us to live in a way that distinguishes our lives from the practices of those around us.  Ephesians 5 deals particularly with practices related to sexual deviation (note verses 1 through 6).  We are told, “Be not partakers with them” (verse 7).  And we are told that “as children of light” we are to “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (verse 11).  Light is distinct from darkness.  Christians must not only refrain from the works of darkness, but we must also keep from associating with them, or endorsing them.  To “have no fellowship” with sinful practices means refraining from complicity with them, by anything we say or do.  Rather we must “reprove them.”

There can be no serious debate or doubt over the sinfulness of homosexual practices.  They are condemned as sinful in Genesis 19, Leviticus 18, Leviticus 20, Deuteronomy 17, Judges 19, First Kings 14 and 15, Second Kings 23, Romans 1:26-27, First Corinthians 6:9-11, First Timothy 1:9-11, and Jude 7.  If you take the Bible seriously, as every real Christian must, you must regard homosexuality, not as a natural trait of some of our fellow-men, but as a sinful activity.

There also is no reasonable question about the Biblical definition of marriage.  Marriage is, and has always been, a life-long and legal commitment between a man and a woman to establish a stable environment (a home) for the bringing up of children.  Not only the Bible, but also human history and every human culture, have defined marriage as an institution specifically uniting people who can have children together.  If human children are conceived and brought into the world in the same circumstances as barnyard animals are, society could not continue to be in any real sense civilized.  Human children are not like calves or puppies, and must be nurtured and directed for years (“brought up”).  Therefore with the institution of marriage society charges the biological producers of a child with the responsibility of rearing him.  Marriage has nothing to do with emotional attachment or sexual activity (if we can call what they do by that name) between people of the same sex who, of course, cannot produce children together.  State-sanctioned contracts between homosexual people are not really marriages, by historical or Biblical definition.  At best they might be called “pretend marriages.”  The “gay marriage” is one of several departures from reason that are being currently pursued by our society, and it definitely cannot be embraced by Christians.  It is not being embraced by other sensible people either, but it certainly cannot be endorsed by people who believe the Bible.

1.       WE CANNOT ACCEPT IT.

The pressure will be on for everyone to accept same-sex “marriage” on the same level with real marriage, but Christians can never do it.  We are “stuck” because we have always told everybody that we believe the Bible to be the Word of God.  Political and societal pressure should not be able to change that.  Laws may be passed, or courts may hand down rulings, that say that everyone must accept a marriage sanctioned by the government as a true marriage, but Christians can’t do it.  We may be charged with discrimination or “hate speech,” but we must all stand our ground for the truth.  We have no choice.

2.       WE CANNOT RECOGNIZE IT.

Since according to the Bible, and on the basis of commons sense, same-sex unions cannot be regarded as marriages, Christians are not going to recognize them as such.  “This is my husband [spouse/wife]” will be met with “No, he’s not.”  We will love everybody as Christ does, but we will not agree that something that is not a marriage is!  In legal or business matters, Christians will refuse to recognize these contracts as marriages.  Won’t we?  The first time a believer complies with a request, or a demand, that he call it marriage will be the time he becomes disloyal to Christ.  And we will not turn from God in order to get along with society.

3.       WE CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN IT.

Already Christian florists and musicians and decorators and caterers have got into trouble for refusing to serve “gay weddings.”  This will happen more and more, and the consequences may get more and more severe.  But why should any American be punished for doing what he thinks is right?  Should a caterer or a florist be fined or jailed for refusing to participate in a Ku Klux Klan rally?  Would we expect a Jewish decorator to be forced to sign a contract to do a job for a neo-Nazi group?  Why then should Christians be forced to violate their consciences or be punished for not doing so?  Faithful Christians will not cave even to legal pressure, because they cannot bow to Baal.

The changing laws of our land are putting believers in the Bible and followers of Christ in increasingly precarious predicaments.  But it is still clear what we all must do.  We must walk as children of light and give no endorsement to the works of darkness.

As a born again member of a New Testament church (Old Paths Baptist Church in Northfield MN) which is not organized as a legal entity (corporation, unincorporated association, charitable trust, business trust, 501c3, etc.), licensed practicing attorney, head of the “Separation of Church and State Law” ministry out of that church I too am very concerned with the issue.

As you know, believers are to proceed with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding gleaned from the Bible. One can recognize a problem from a Biblical perspective, but not understand how the problem is explained in the panorama of history (as presented in the Bible from beginning to end) or the God-given methods for addressing the problem. Christians (excluding the remnant) have not applied Biblical knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in ordering their individual lives, families, and churches according to the directives of the word of God; and, as a result, moral awfulness engulfs America, and is gaining steam at an accelerated rate. If we cannot get our individual lives, families and churches properly ordered, how in the world do you think we can address the homosexual agenda? If we don’t understand how we arrived where we are today in America, how do you propose that we fight a spiritual warfare against powers, principalites, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places? A lot of “Christians” and churches operate according to their traditions and teach and practice heresy to one degree or another; many are now in complete apostasy.

The website covers biblical teaching on many biblical doctrines and teachings. For example, one can read about the doctrine of the church (God operates through local autonomous New Testament churches and wishes all ministries to be part of a properly ordered church) and how to organize a church as a spiritual entity only, not a legal entity such as a corporation, unincorporated association, charitable trust, corporation sole, etc. and without 501c3 status. You would agree that the Lord desires churches to remain under him alone and not even partially under any other head?

Gay Is Not the New Black

It’s hard to deny that homosexual marriage appears to be a foregone conclusion in America. This is a frightening prospect not only for those of us who understand marriage to be a testimony of the relationship between Christ and his bride, the church, but also for all who value the family and its contribution to the well-being of society and human thriving. And while it’s difficult to watch a coordinated, well-funded, well-connected propaganda strategy undermine thousands of years of human history, it’s especially disconcerting to witness the use of the civil rights struggle as the vehicle for the strategy.

One of the clearest examples of the conflation of homosexual “marriage” and civil rights is Michael Gross’s article in The Advocate, in which he coins the now-popular phrase “Gay is the new black.”1 Gross is not alone in his conflation of the two issues, however. At a 2005 banquet, Julian Bond, former head of the NAACP, said, “Sexual disposition parallels race. I was born this way. I have no choice. I wouldn’t change it if I could. Sexuality is unchangeable.”2Nor is this kind of thinking exclusive to the political left. When asked byGQ magazine if he thought homosexuality was a choice, Michael Steele, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, replied:

Oh, no. I don’t think I’ve ever really subscribed to that view, that you can turn it on and off like a water tap. Um, you know, I think that there’s a whole lot that goes into the makeup of an individual that, uh, you just can’t simply say, oh, like, “Tomorrow morning I’m gonna stop being gay.” It’s like saying, “Tomorrow morning I’m gonna stop being black.”3

Even the California Supreme Court bought in to this line of reasoning. In a February 2008 decision they reasoned:

Furthermore, in contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual’s capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual’s sexual orientation, and, more generally, that an individual’s sexual orientation—like a person’s race or gender—does not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal rights.4 (emphasis added)

The California Supreme Court, like Gross, would have us believe that the homosexual struggle for a redefinition of marriage puts them in the same category as my ancestors. However, they would rather you didn’t take a closer look, lest you see how flimsy the comparison turns out to be.

Unidentifiable Minority

The first problem with the idea of conflating “sexual orientation” and race is the fact that homosexuality is undetectable apart from self-identification. Determining whether or not a person is black, Native American, or female usually involves no more than visual verification. However, should doubt remain, blood tests, genetics, or a quick trip up the family tree would suffice. Not so with homosexuality. There is no evidence that can confirm or deny a person’s claims regarding sexual orientation.5 Moreover, the homosexual community itself has made this identification even more complicated in an effort to distance itself from those whose same-sex behavior they find undesirable. The Jerry Sandusky case is a prime example. Sandusky is accused of molesting numerous young boys during and after his tenure at Penn State. However, try placing the label “homosexual” on his activities and the backlash will be swift and unequivocal. “Pedophiles are not homosexuals!” is the consistent refrain coming from the homosexual community, media, academia, and the psychological/medical establishment.6 Hence, it seems same-sex attraction alone isn’t enough to identify a person as a homosexual. And what about LUGS7 in college, or same-sex relationships in prison? Are these people homosexual? How about men who are extremely effeminate but prefer women, or those who once were practicing homosexuals but have since come out of the lifestyle (i.e., 1 Cor. 6:9-11)?

In short, it’s impossible to identify who is or is not a homosexual. As a result, how do we know to whom the civil rights in question should be attributed? Should a man who isn’t a homosexual (assuming we could determine such a thing) but tries to enter a same-sex union be treated the same as a woman who isn’t Native American but tries to claim it to win sympathy, or casino rights, or votes? But this isn’t the only problem with the civil rights angle.

Unalterable Definition

An additional problem with the “gay is the new black” argument is the complete disconnect between same-sex “marriage” and anti-miscegenation laws. First, there is a categorical disconnect. Miscegenation literally means “the interbreeding of people considered to be of different racial types.” Ironically, the fact that homosexuals cannot “interbreed” shines a spotlight on the problem inherent in their logic. How can forbidding people who actually have the ability to interbreed be the same thing as acknowledging the fact that two people categorically lack that ability?8

Second, there is a definitional disconnect. The very definition of marriage eliminates the possibility of including same-sex couples. The word marriage has a long and well-recorded history; it means “the union of a man and a woman.” Even in cultures that practice polygamy, the definition involves a man and several women. Therefore, while anti-miscegenation laws denied people a legitimate right, the same cannot be said concerning the denial of marriage to same-sex couples; one cannot be denied a right to something that doesn’t exist. It should be noted that the right to marry is one of the most frequently denied rights we have. People who are already married, 12-year-olds, and people who are too closely related are just a few categories of people routinely and/or categorically denied the right to marry. Hence, the charge that it is wrong to deny any person a “fundamental right” rings hollow. There has always been, and, by necessity, will always be discrimination in marriage laws.

Third, there is a historical disconnect. As early as the time of Moses, recorded history is replete with interracial marriages. In our own history, the marriage of John Rolfe and Pocahontas in the 17th century,9 along with the fact that anti-miscegenation laws were usually limited only to the intermarrying of certain “races” of people (i.e., black and white), stands as historical evidence of the legal and logical inconsistency of such laws. Thus, unlike same-sex “marriage” advocates, those fighting for the right to intermarry in the civil rights era had history on their side.

Fourth, there is a legal disconnect. One thing that seems to escape most people in this debate is the fact that homosexuals have never been denied the right to marry. They simply haven’t had the right to redefine marriage. But don’t take my word for it; listen to the Iowa Supreme Court in their decision in favor of same-sex “marriage”: “It is true the marriage statute does not expressly prohibit gay and lesbian persons from marrying; it does, however, require that if they marry, it must be to someone of the opposite sex.” There it is: not only in black and white, but in a legal decision. Homosexuals haven’t been deprived of any right. How, then, do those on the side of same-sex marriage continue to make the claim that this is a civil rights issue? The key is in the next paragraph:

[The] right of a gay or lesbian person under the marriage statute to enter into a civil marriage only with a person of the opposite sex is no right at all. Under such a law, gay or lesbian individuals cannot simultaneously fulfill their deeply felt need for a committed personal relationship, as influenced by their sexual orientation, and gain the civil status and attendant benefits granted by the statute.

I feel the need to remind the reader that this is a legal decision, since phrases like “gay or lesbian individuals cannot simultaneously fulfill their deeply felt need for a committed personal relationship” tend to sound out of place in such a document. Further, this is asinine logic. For example, following this line of reasoning, one could argue, “I have the right to join the military, but I am a pacifist. Therefore, I don’t really have the right (since it would be repulsive to me). Therefore, we need to establish a pacifist branch of the military so that I can fulfill both my desire to join, and my desire not to fight.” However, this reasoning is critically important in order to make the next leap in logic. “[A] gay or lesbian person can only gain the same rights under the statute as a heterosexual person by negating the very trait that defines gay and lesbian people as a class—their sexual orientation.”

Unsustainable Precedent

Perhaps the most damning aspect of the civil rights argument is logical unsustainability. If sexual orientation/identity is the basis for (1) classification as a minority group, and (2) legal grounds for the redefinition of marriage, then what’s to stop the “bisexual” from fighting for the ability to marry a man and a woman simultaneously since his “orientation” is, by definition, directed toward both sexes?10 What about the member of NAMBLA whose orientation is toward young boys?11 Where do we stop, and on what basis? Homosexual advocates are loath to answer this question. In fact, they are adept at avoiding it (and are rarely pressed on the point). However, the further legal implications of court decisions about same-sex marriage are inevitable. Nowhere is this clearer than in Lawrence v. Texas, a decision that struck down anti-sodomy laws. In the majority decision, Justice Kennedy cited his 1992 opinion in Planned Parenthoodv. Casey:

These matters, involving the most intimate and personal choices a person may make in a lifetime, choices central to personal dignity and autonomy, are central to the liberty protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. At the heart of liberty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life. Beliefs about these matters could not define the attributes of personhood were they formed under compulsion of the State.12

I have no legal training, and I recognize the limits of my ability to fully evaluate the implications of such a decision. However, I do take notice when Justice Scalia responds to this assertion by stating:

I have never heard of a law that attempted to restrict one’s “right to define” certain concepts; and if the passage calls into question the government’s power to regulate actions based on one’s self-defined “concept of existence, etc.,” it is the passage that ate the rule of law.13 (emphasis added)

Inescapable Confrontation

It is very important for those of us who oppose the idea of same-sex “marriage” to do so not because we wish to preserve our version of the American Dream, but because we view marriage as a living, breathing picture of the relationship between Christ and his church (Eph. 5:22ff), and because we know that God has designed the family in a particular way. While the design of the family promotes human thriving (Gen 1:27-28), the testimony points people to their only hope in this life and the next. As a result, silence on this issue is not an option. Unfortunately (and quite ironically), many Christians have been bullied into silence by the mere threat of censure from the homosexual lobby. “Oppose us and you’re no better than Gov. Wallace, Hitler, and those homophobes who killed Matthew Shepard!” is their not-so-subtle refrain. Consequently, we spend so much time trying to prove we’re not hate-filled murderers that we fail to recognize that the Emperor has no clothes. There is no legal, logical, moral, biblical, or historical reason to support same-sex “marriage.” In fact, there are myriad reasons not to support it. I’ve only provided a few.

‘Gay’ rape in military underreported by Pentagon

Far more military men are being raped by other men and experience other sexual traumas than is reported by the Pentagon because of the stigma attached to such assaults, says a new study released Tuesday by the American Psychological Association.

“Rates of military sexual trauma among men who served in the military may be as much as 15 times higher than has been previously reported, largely because of barriers associated with stigma, beliefs in myths about male rape, and feelings of helplessness,” the APA said in releasing findings published in its periodical Psychological Services.

If the survey of male combat veterans is accurate, it could mean the U.S. armed forces are dealing with an epidemic of male-on-male sex crimes.

Comparing the new study’s numbers and the Pentagon’s survey results produced some shocking statistics.

The Rand Corp., which conducted the most recent Pentagon sexual assault survey in 2014, found that about 12,000 men reported being assaulted. Sexual assault in the military is defined as unwanted sexual contact, including rape and other assaults or the attempt to commit those acts.

Of the 12,000 male victims, 3,850 reported “penetrative” attacks — meaning they were raped.

Extrapolating the study’s estimates of up to 15 times greater than thePentagon’s count, it would mean that as many as 180,000 men are assaulted in one year and, of those, 57,750 are “penetrative” attacks.

The scholarly survey refers to “male sexual trauma,” which translated to this survey question response: “I was sexually assaulted while serving in the military.”

“That was the question. It was quite literally it,” Sean Sheppard, a psychologist and research fellow at the University of Utah who led the study, told The Washington Times.

Mr. Sheppard said researchers used a random response technique that allowed them to extract more accurate data from a sample of 180 male combat veterans. From that technique, they derived the 15-times rate compared with anonymous surveys such as the Pentagon‘s.

He said the military should “consider the fact that stigma and other biases potentially leads to underreporting and to utilize techniques like the randomized response technique to try to determine more accurate base rates. It would be a tool in addition to what the Pentagon is doing.”

Does the survey mean that the 3,850 male military rape victims count is actually nearly 60,000?

“In the research that we conducted, broadly speaking, the rates of sexual assault are significantly higher,” Mr. Sheppard said. “I couldn’t tell you whether that is due to rape or not, but you can make that hypothesis.”

The study said: “Data from this study, although preliminary, suggest that published rates of male MST [military sexual trauma] may substantially underestimate the true rate of the problem. Current work is underway to replicate these findings and expand the scope of this research by assessing a broader range of behaviors that comprise sexual assault.”

The Defense Department issues a biannual report on sexual assaults. Based on Internet emailed surveys, Rand found that more men than women, in pure numbers, are sexual assault victims. Women make up about 14.5 percent of the 1.3 million active-duty force.

“We know that there is underreporting among men and women, and hope that this special issue will help to bring awareness and treatment for those that serve and protect us,” said the periodical’s co-editor, Michi Fu, a clinical practitioner. “I personally wanted to pull together scholarship after hearing of reports of military sexual trauma being so much more prevalent than in the general population.”

Researchers said that even though the Pentagon-sponsored survey is anonymous, men still are reluctant to disclose that they were raped.

The rapes and other assaults come at a cost to the men and the nation, according to a survey of 2,042 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, says another study in Psychological Services.

“Male veterans who reported being sexually assaulted while serving their country suffered more severe symptoms of PTSD and depression, had higher rates of suicidal thoughts and were more likely to enroll in outpatient mental health treatment than those who were not assaulted,” the researchers found.

Elaine Donnelly, who runs the Center for Military Readiness, said male-on-male sexual assaults have been increasing since Congress repealed the gay ban in 1993 and replaced it with “don’t ask, don’t tell,” which was erased by President Obama to allow openly gay service members.

“DoD figures have shown that most sexual assaults on men are perpetrated by other men, not women,” she said.
